I go to the Britomart market every Saturday to get food for the week, and recently I have noticed a definite increase in the number of bicycles there. There is even a bit of a trend towards the 'people with there clothes on' type of cyclist and even some serious style ...

This photo is intresting as it shows the way women in NZ society can utilise one of the worlds most useful articles of clothing know to human kind. Long leather boots.
ReplyDeleteAs a man, I feel entirely miffed and unhappy about the fact that I am excluded from what was historicaly a male item of clothing. Look at some photos up to the late 1800's and long leather boots (mosly for horse riding) were everyday clothing for men. I now regularly ride amodern horse so want some sensible boots. Dont tell me doc martins will do as who wants all those laces to do up.
Dont get me wrong I am more than happy to now see lots of women in long leather boots! especially on bikes. It has to be the most practical/stylish como ever. Its a wonderful NZ winter fashion phenomenon.
I just want to be able to go into a shop and buy some boots that are long enough to tuck my trousres into, and that are my size without feeling like I am entering the world of cross dressing. Surely some boot designer has thought "I know why not make these boots up to size 10 and 11 and keep the soles flat and the amount of studs and flimery to the minimum. That way they might sell some to blokes too". But no not as far as I have seen.
Until then, I am stuck with tucking my trousers in my socks and you dont need to look far the see the problem I have there!
Still desperately seeking large sized long leather boots......
