Blokes in the city

Blokes ...

Strolling

Riding

Waiting

Turning

Bike share and style

Perhaps Melbourne Bike Share should take a look at this ...

Melbourne Bike Share has got it very wrong so far - perhaps they could learn a thing or two!

Togetherness

Togetherness in the urban landscape

Aw! - these two look so sweet together .... just waiting

Then together ... in action!

Aotea Square? No, it's actually quite cool now!

I know there has been a lot of chat about the new Aotea Square, but I for one LOVE IT!

There has been real 'wheel friendly' thought gone into it. Some bright spark has realised that people with wheels ARE city life.

Skate boards

Unicycles

So ok, these last two pictures are not exactly wheels but they are close ... in a roundish sort of way

Scooters ... and something else you don't often see in the city ... children!

More small people in pushchairs ... and very tall people!

I really like the symmetry in this picture

Aotea Square has almost been designed for this kind off thing!

That was fun ... let's do it again!!

Of course, this strange concept of 'ordinary people having fun in the city', not vomiting or racing cars with ear-shattering acoustics, is a bit of a concern for the powers that be ... I'm not sure whether these policemen have got out of there cars (shock horror!!) to watch this scene out of puzzlement, disbelief, simple curiosity, or whether they really think that unfettered wheel activity is a serious threat!

101010

No, 101010 is not binary code (as I'm sure you were all thinking!), it was actually the 'bike bike fix up' day of action on the 10th of October ...

There were lots of bikes ... and families

and lots of bits of bikes ... and hopefully lots of people that new how to put them all back together! ... Don't look at me!!!

Bicycle surgery was carefully watched over by nervous owners

but we had the best of the best ... and we even employed the odd strategic tongue protrusion in tricky situations!

There were some gorgeous vintage bicycles brought in ...

... and hopefully, after a bit of a fix up, they went home feeling a little more sprightly!

Some people took advantage of the full service ...

... the 'ride in bicycle wash' and of course not forgetting the free bananas!

Meanwhile, we had a great team on the tunes!

Fashion

This isn't our Fashion Week ... but it should be!

If anyone out there 'has people that knows people' in the fashion designer set, be sure to mention it for next year.

Dudes

There are some very cool dudes around town ...

Cool dudes always have girls trailing around after them

This shot is quite 'European' I feel

Urban city cool

This guy was very cool - but even more so because there was a police car sat at the lights just out of shot - he leisurely took an illegal turn into Queen street across the bow of the police car so that they could admire his non-regulation flat cap ... it was beautiful!

The quite Sunday afternoon continued ...

Bicyclist icon

I little while ago I was searching for an icon appropriate for an urban transport bicyclist ... I discovered ZILCH! There were plenty of hunched over 'sporty' type icons but nothing for the 'just getting about' type of cyclist.

So with no.8 wire Kiwi ingenuity, I set to and created something.

Just recently, I was very pleased to hear that my logo is going to be used for the new 'Great Urban Rides' signage. The Ponsonby signs will probably be going up over the next month, so that will definitely require a glass of bubbles at a watering hole within sight of one of 'my' signs!

I have also put this up on Wikimedia Commons so that others can use it too.

Girls love bikes

I love my bikes ... I'm not really sure why. Bikes are just ... cool!

These ladies are the Chain Gang Girls ... and they are cool

Handbag casually slung over her handle bars ... that's cool

This lady is obviously thinking ... "I need to get me one of those ... bicycles are cool!"
