... at vast expense of course, but I just calculate 'cost' in tanks of petrol. We don't own a car - no tank, no petrol ... so all the shiny things are really quite cheap!! This also works for shoe purchases - because we don't have a car, I need to buy lots of shoes for walking to places instead (it's called active transport - a bit of terminology always helps when getting this idea past the Husband!)

Sumptuous saddle
Beautifully packaged and you get a lifetime guarantee .. that's pretty rare nowadays to say the least!
Gorgeous grips
Really round rims
Shiny shiny bling for bicycles!
She just looks radiant I think - I gave her back the white mudguard section she originally had and she just gleams all over!
Wheels threaded and ready for action - front wheel with dynamo hub (for lights)
Back wheel with 8 speed internal gears (and yet to be added hub brake)
A brooks! I've always wanted one of those. Let us know how comfy it is and if it lives up to the legend! :P
ReplyDeleteI'd imagine these chaps would have the rims you need... http://www.velo-orange.com/
ReplyDelete@Kim - yes will do, I am expecting great thing from everything I've heard!
ReplyDelete@Matt - thanks for info, that looks like a fabulous site and with plenty of good shopping opportunities!
That is going to be a special bike indeed. Using your "no car" expenditure calculations I suppose hubby has the best Hi-Fi and largest television in central Auckland.
ReplyDelete@ bikefriendly - he certainly has the largest CD collection in Auckland, and of course then there are his 3 bikes....!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! ... :P
ReplyDeletewhat rims were they before? 26" or 28"? Not strange sizes at all.

I bought some NOS chromed 28" Westwood rims from him a year ago, he may have what you want
@ foot - thanks for that, I had the same thought but Tim at T.White's has managed to get hold of some for me ... so possibly on the road by Friday!!!
ReplyDeletewhat size rims are you going to sport on the Triumph? What year is it? Is it a "Raleigh" Triumph, like the later Humbers, Rudges, etc? we want pics!
ReplyDeleteall the best, Al
@bikefriendly - as "the husband" in question, my 3 bikes are getting trimmed to 2 and the 2 I'll be left with are probably on a par with Unity's wheelset :-)
ReplyDelete@foot - the rims are 650 and I think it is a 1950's Raleigh Triumph. I have some pictures of progress on http://aucklandcyclechic.blogspot.com/2010/04/progress-so-far.html and http://aucklandcyclechic.blogspot.com/2010/03/my-new-old-bicycle.html
ReplyDeleteIt is nearly finished so watch this space for the latest update!
I have been on a 'shiny-spree' lately, 3 new Brooks in a year (B66, B18, Flyer Special) for my 20s BSA, 1939 ladies' loop-frame Raleigh, and another 28" wheeler. Also picked up a lovely Raleigh 26" 3 speed here in the UK to bring back to NZ - green with stainless rims and B83 Brooks, 4 speed Sturmey, dynohub and lights, 1955. If you are ever coming to Hawkes Bay (after Aug 2010) and need a bike loan, should be able to fix you and the hubby up!
ReplyDelete@foot - thanks so much for the offer, we will definitely look you up if we're in the area!
