Progress so far

My new old bike is now well and truly in bits ...

Mucky chrome bits

Stripped ex-painted bits

Trying to look as much like a bicycle as possible

Just to remind you - this is what she will look like ...

And some of her 'features' on this page

Just out of interest, we visited Motat museum the other day ...

... and I spotted this. I wonder whether I should take any of these 'hints' when riding my beautiful old new bicycle.

I particularly like:

" Don't walk your bicycle more than absolutely necessary. It attracts unpleasant attention"

and

"Don't start till you are certain that not only your wheel but your costume is in perfect condition" ... that's definitely my sort of 'hint'

And one for the Husband ...

"The brake should not be indiscriminately applied. It should only be used in real cases of emergency."

  1. I love this one, for my husband...
"Don't allow your escort to ride inside, nearest the footpath. That is your place."

Your new old bike is looking really 'NICE'. We just arrived from Rotorua, and I got from http://www.bikefix.co.nz/ - new handlebars that would suit your bike (if you need it). It was around NZ$ 29.

  2. @Julz - thanks for that but I'm trying to re-use as much of the old bike as poss. Obviously the wheels will have to be new as she came wheel-less, and I'm going to upgrade the saddle but have had the old chrome bits re-chromed ... see next instalment!!

  3. Wow, I am planning to do the same with my new 'old' bike this summer; strip it down, get the frame re-treated and totally do it over. Seeing your kitchen floor covered in pieces like that is pretty scary though! Not sure if I am up to the task... Looking forward to the next installment in your renovation project, and I am sure the finished job will look fabulous. Good luck!

As for the tips for ladies, well, wasn't the world a different place indeed? I for one am glad that things have moved on :o)
