As one lady says: "the perceived barriers are always much bigger than the real ones" ... "once you get back into the habit of doing it, it's quite easy really"
Ok, so the blond guy is pretty irritating, but the general ideas are good ...
"so who's with me?" as Rhys Darby says in the 2degrees advert ... it can't be that hard to get a few more people on their bikes ...
Or even Rhys Darby ...
ReplyDeleteIt sounds very similar to our one. I've been doing the Bikewise Challenge and even though I cycle everyday anyway, the online distance tracker is quite motivating.
ReplyDeleteMr Irritating has a Kiwi accent, does he not? I've had a word to a mate in immigration to deny re-entry to both him and his yellow pullover if he tries to come home.
@Malc - Doh!!
ReplyDelete@bikefriendly - thank you on behalf of New Zealanders everywhere!
that guy in yellow with the overactive hands sounds embarrassingly Kiwi. Dork. Flying the NZ flag very low in the UK... but maybe a great new persona for "That Guy" Lee Hart to explore
ReplyDeleteHaha, if only everyone at work had the spirit of the first lady in the video!
ReplyDeleteAlthough in saying that, my workplace did come up tops in its category in the regional results! :D
By maintaining a commute-by-bike presence at work, others have started to slowly warm up to the idea:
1. A co-worker who joined us last year chose to cycle to work when he saw me storing my bike in the office as opposed to leaving it to the mercy of the elements on Queen Street. He sometimes bikes to meetings (in normal work clothes) if they're in the CBD as opposed to taking a taxi. Imagine how much savings our company would accumulate if everyone does this. Instead of company cars, people could consider a company bike. :)
2. My immediate boss started cycling to work in January and he's enjoying it—and the Bikewise challenge when I told him about it. Before that he was on a park-n-bus-ride commute.
I will chalk those down as personal victories. Best of all is having co-workers to talk to if I've had a close shave on the way to work.
@ Su Yin - Great to hear :-)
