Now you see them, now you don't

Well, updating on Symonds street, it appears that we aren't going to get cycle lanes on the extra-wide pavements. Instead, we get these little green areas on the road that only appear at the junctions. As a cyclist and a motorist, I'm not really sure what the point is. Are there going to be instruction posted up? What happens at the end of the green bits?

The green paint doesn't seem to wear very well, it's almost worn off at this junction and the men in yellow haven't even finished the road works yet!

  1. It's known as an advance stop box. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_stop_line

    Nelson has 'em too: http://www.nelsoncitycouncil.co.nz/services/road_transport/transport-cycle/advance-stop.htm
