Small activists - Harbour Bridge

Well what can I say - I'm still buzzing!

It is the Auckland Harbour Bridge's 50th birthday and today Aucklanders walked and cycled across this 'car/truck only' bridge to urge the powers that be to provide access for cyclist and pedestrians. The crossing was completed by all with great panache and style and the sheer numbers certainly made a statement, both visually and politically.

The trip across and back was fabulous ... I want to do that again ... regularly! Here are a few of the snaps I took of the younger 'activists'.

  1. Wasn't it a great day. I still feel the buzz. Wonderful to see you there as well - a hilarious place to meet - the harbour bridge!

  2. Yes it was great to meet you too. It was such a feel-good experience - all those people out in the sunshine having fun. I'm a bit disappointed about how the media are reporting it - as can be seen from the photos, we were hardly hooligan-like activists with violence and mayhem on our minds!

  3. My 8 and 10 year old boys had a great time. We caught the Devonport ferry to the city and made a day of it riding back after we crossed the bridge following the Devonport Cycle Route (with multiple bakery, dairy and playground stops).

It just felt so "right" didn't it? Like why have we not been doing this for the last 50 years?

I have a post about it on my blog also.
